Most people know GTA 6 has been pushed back. What most people don't know is that the delay happened one more time than Rockstar ever publicly admitted.

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick let it slip in a recent interview with David Senra. While reconfirming the current release date of November 19th, 2026, he mentioned that the game is "about 18 months behind the original date." That one offhand comment reveals something Rockstar never announced: GTA 6 had an internal target of Spring 2025 before any of the public delays were ever made known.

Here's how the timeline actually stacks up, according to RockstarINTEL's reporting:

  1. Spring 2025 — the original internal target, never publicly announced
  2. Fall 2025 — the first public window, revealed alongside Trailer 1, then quietly dropped
  3. May 26th, 2026 — confirmed after Trailer 2, then pushed again
  4. November 19th, 2026 — where things stand right now

So when Rockstar delayed the game from "2025" with Trailer 1, they were already working from a shifted date. The Spring 2025 target had been moved to Fall 2025 sometime before that announcement even landed.

Zelnick was direct in the interview that November 19th is the current target and he's not backing away from it. Worth noting: RockstarINTEL points out that earlier last year, Zelnick conspicuously stopped using the Fall 2025 window in interviews — which turned out to be a warning sign before the May 2026 delay was confirmed. He's not doing that this time.

For what it's worth, Zelnick has also said he's seen the game demoed. He's clearly across it.

None of this changes what you need to do right now — which is wait. But it does reframe the story a little. This isn't a game that slipped once or twice. It's a game that's been chasing a moving target since before most players even knew a date existed.
