There are alligators in GTA VI. Confirmed. Rockstar showed them in Trailer 2 — and they are not alone.
This is not a decorative detail. For the first time in the series, Rockstar has put real predatory wildlife into the open world in a way that changes how you move through it. If you have only played GTA V, where the wilderness felt mostly empty, Leonida is going to feel genuinely different.
What Trailer 2 Actually Shows
Rockstar confirmed four specific animals in Trailer 2: alligators, panthers, sharks, and flamingos. That is a meaningful list. Two of those — alligators and panthers — are apex predators that live in the exact terrain you will be crossing on foot. Florida's Everglades-style swamps and dense subtropical landscape are not just a backdrop; they are habitat.
Sharks showing up alongside them tells you the ocean boundary is not safe either. GTA V had sharks, but they were easy to forget about. When Rockstar is putting them in the same confirmed wildlife list as land predators, it suggests the water and the land are both going to push back.
Flamingos are there too, which is the detail that actually signals intent — Rockstar does not animate a flamingo colony for nothing. It points to a world built with ecological texture, not just a few hazard animals dropped in for a YouTube clip.
Why This Is Worth Your Attention Before You Play
The setting here is Leonida — a Florida analog with Vice City at its centre, but also the Keys, swamps, and panhandle stretching out around it. A lot of the map is going to be wild, wet, and low-visibility terrain. If the wildlife behaves the way the confirmed trailer footage implies, moving through those areas on foot — escaping a chase on foot, cutting cross-country, exploring off-road — is going to carry a different kind of risk than anything in GTA V.
That changes route planning. It changes where you hide. It changes whether getting out of the car feels safe.
What We Do Not Know Yet
Exactly how the wildlife systems work — aggression range, whether animals respawn, whether there are hunting mechanics — has not been confirmed. The comparison data from Leonida Intel tags GTA V as having "limited (a few mammals)" and GTA VI's wildlife as confirmed from trailer footage, but the full behaviour model is TBC.
What is not TBC is that Rockstar put those four animals on the confirmed list for a reason. They made it into the official trailer. That is the tell.
Keep an eye on the swamp edges when you are in Leonida. The map is bigger, the terrain is wilder, and something in the water is definitely watching you back.
